He studied at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy. He was voted first team All-Stat after averaging 22.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore. At the end of his first year at Illinois, Podziemski transferred to Santa Clara. He began his debut campaign with the Broncos as the starting shooting guard for the group. Santa Clara’s season opener versus Eastern Washington ended in an 84-72 victory for the Broncos thanks to Podziemski’s 30 points. In the following game against Georgia Southern, he finished with 34 points and 11 rebounds.
