Maxey chose to finish his high school career, even though he was thinking about making an early entry into the NBA following the 2018 season. He finished with great averages and titles like McDonald’s All-American and Texas Mr. Basketball. The 2019 Texas 6A Region II tournament finals marked the apex of South Garland’s quest, as Maxey’s 25 points were unable to secure victory against Klein Forest High School.

Collegiate Career

After breaking the record with 26 points in just 26 minutes off the bench against Michigan State, Tyrese Maxey’s college debut for Kentucky at Madison Square Garden was an absolute triumph. In a dominating victory over the Lamar Cardinals on November 23, Maxey rebounded despite going through a dip in his three-point shooting. He scored 21 points, including four three-pointers. His outstanding play persisted; on December 28, he led the Louisville Cardinals to an overtime victory with a performance that tallied 27 points and seven rebounds. On February 29, 2020, Kentucky defeated the Auburn Tigers with Maxey scoring 17 points to help the team win the SEC regular season championship. Unfortunately, Maxey’s freshman season was cut short when the COVID-19 epidemic struck, forcing the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament and the SEC Tournament to be canceled. Maxey’s steady play earned him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team and the All-SEC Second Team, despite the shortened season. Soon after, on April 6, 2020, Maxey announced that he was going to be drafted by the NBA in 2020.

Professional Career

Tyrese Maxey, who was formerly thought to be a lottery pick, was chosen 21st overall by the Daryl Morey-led Philadelphia 76ers in the 2020 NBA Draft. With standout performances, including an incredible 39-point effort in his first NBA start that set a rookie record since 1970, Maxey’s rookie season demonstrated his talent.

Although the 76ers were eliminated from the playoffs in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Maxey’s bright future started to emerge in the 2021–2022 campaign. With James Harden added, Maxey focused more on his natural shooting guard position and performed admirably, finishing the season with high averages. He made a name for himself in the NBA playoffs in 2022, most notably when he scored 38 points in a game against the Toronto Raptors.

Maxey’s development continued throughout the 2022–2023 season, reaching a career high of 44 points in a game against the Toronto Raptors.
