High School Career

Chet Holmgren’s career in high school basketball started at Minnehaha Academy, where he averaged 6.2 points per game as a freshman and helped the team win two consecutive Class 2A state titles. With averages of 18.6 points and 11 rebounds per game in his sophomore campaign, he showed off a stunning improvement and won another state championship.

After the season, Holmgren performed exceptionally well with Grassroots Sizzle, winning the MVP award and improving his standing in the 2021 class. Notably, in 2019 he made headlines across the country with an outstanding play against Stephen Curry. In a televised victory over Sierra Canyon School as a junior, Holmgren showed off his dominance by scoring nine points, grabbing ten rebounds, and putting up twelve blocks. In a 97-63 victory over Dixie State, Chet Holmgren had one of his best college performances ever with 14 points, 13 rebounds, 7 blocks, and 6 assists—a feat not seen in 25 years. He continued his incredible rookie campaign, winning the West Coast Conference awards for Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

When Holmgren scored 19 points, 17 rebounds, seven blocks, and five assists in a commanding 93–72 first-round victory over Georgia State in the NCAA tournament, his influence was crucial.
